GRADUATE MANAGEMENT APTITUDE TEST
The GMAT is a test administered to evaluate the aptitude ability of a candidate applying for a business program. It is a mandatory examination for admissions in more than 4000 graduate programs in 1800 B-School around the world. Natives from different countries across any stream can take the GMAT test.
The test is broadly divided into 3 modules:
* Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA)
* Quantitative Section
* Verbal Ability
* Quantitative Section
* Verbal Ability
The maximum score is 800 and the mean score is 533 (as of 2005-06). The test is valid for 5 years.
AWA – The candidate has to answer two different kinds of task in this section.
(1) Analysis of an issue
(2) Analysis of an argument
The maximum time allotted is 30 minutes for each essay. The scoring ranges from 0-60 point,representing the average ratings of two essays.
Quantitative Section- This section assesses a candidate’s competence of arithmetic, elementary algebra and common geometry, divided into two types of tasks-
(1) Data Sufficiency
(2) Problem Solving
The scoring ranges from 0-60 points.
Verbal Section- This section is categorized into 3 sections-
(1) Reading Comprehension
(2) Critical Reasoning
(3) Sentence Correction
The time allotted for this section is 75 minutes and the test score for this section is 0-60 points. Also, there will be a few discretionary pre-test sections as a part of the Verbal and Quantitative sections but they can’t be identified so a student has to answer all the questions in the test.

Additional Test Score Reporting Fee- US $ 28
To increase the chances of acceptance, the candidate must be strong across a range of criteria and therefore the tests are one of the most important parts of his/her application that can improve his skills and chances.
A few strategies that can be used are:-
• Creating a well-balanced schedule incorporating study and stress free activities like exercise and social interaction
• Believing in one’s ability and harnessing self-confidence.
